Overview
Travelers short on time in Tanzania who still want solid Big Five wildlife viewing will find this 4-day camping safari a good fit. It covers the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater affordably and at a comfortable pace, without a long time commitment.
As with most of our shorter safaris, it begins and ends in Arusha. Camping accommodation keeps costs below a comparable lodge-based trip, so it's a solid choice when both budget and time are real constraints, and you still reach two of the Northern Circuit's strongest parks.
Our budget safari cost guide breaks down what to expect, and you can contact us to book this itinerary.

If time permits, you can go on a walking tour of a coffee plantation or choose to visit Arusha National park before the big adventure of your 4 Days Budget Safari begins.

Begin with an early morning game drive, then head off to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We stop along the way at Olduvai Gorge, a place with a history reaching back to the dawn of time. Here the anthropologists Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey found the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man,’ both major links in the chain of human evolution. Late in the afternoon we transfer to Ngorongoro Simba Campsite, where you have dinner and spend the night.
Meals: Lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast
Accommodation: Ngorongoro simba campsite
Distance: 210km
Non – game viewing time: 3 – 4 hrs
Following an early breakfast, you descend to the crater floor along a narrow, steep road. A spectacular range of wildlife lives in the crater, including zebras, hippos, hyenas, wildebeests, warthogs and the famous “Big Five” – buffalo, rhino, lion, elephant and leopard. After plenty of game viewing and a picnic-spot lunch, you leave the crater and drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon.
