It's tempting to picture "the migration crossing" as one single event, but there are really two separate crossing points in two different parts of the Serengeti ecosystem, and they're active at different times of year. Knowing which one you're planning around affects how you time your trip. The Grumeti River crossings take place in the western corridor, usually June through July, with noticeably lighter vehicle traffic than the better-known alternative. The Mara River crossings occur much farther north, usually August through September, and they're the most filmed and most photographed event of the whole migration. The key point is that no crossing is active all year. Each has its own window, and matching your visit to the right one matters far more than booking "a Serengeti safari" and hoping a crossing happens to be nearby. Contact us and we'll plan your trip around the right crossing point and timing for your dates.
